Nitrate Day Five Lab
OBJECTIVE
- Predict
the mass of a product,
- and
calculate percent yield.
INFO
- AgNO3
+ NaCl --> AgCl(S) + NaNO3
- AgNO3
= 169.872 g/mol
- Ag =
107.868 g/mol
- Cl =
35.452 g/mol
Mass out to thousandths (3 decimal places)
DATA
- mass of
Beaker A with AgNO3 = g
- mass of
filter paper = g
- mass of
Beaker A, filter paper & AgCl = g
PROCEDURE
- Mass out Beaker A with the AgNO3.
- Pour 75 mL distilled water into Beaker A and
stir to dissolve the AgNO3.
- Pour 75 mL saturated NaCl solution into Beaker
B.
- Pour Beaker B (NaCl) into Beaker A (AgNO3).
- Place Beaker A on hotplate and set on high.
*** Back to Seats ***
- Heat Beaker A, the AgCl(S) and NaNO3
solution, until it boils.
- Decant the NaNO3 solution (it's
CLEAR) through a funnel and filter paper, and pour down the drain.
- SAVE THE WHITE STUFF (AgCl(S))
- Don't poke a hole in filter paper!
- Place the filter paper into Beaker A with the
white AgCl(S) and put in the fume hood.
- Wash with soap Beaker B, the glass stirring
rod, and the funnel, and dry.
Return trays.
*** Part Two ***
- Mass out Beaker A, filter paper, and AgCl(S).
- Scrape AgCl into bag and bucket.
- Wash with soap, and dry Beaker A.
- Enter data: silver_nitrate_day_5
- Due at the end of the period.
For all
calculations:
- have at least one blank
line between each
- have them properly numbered
- show all work
