OBJECTIVE
- Will a
chemical reaction cause mass to be created or destroyed?
MATERIALS
- baggie
- 10-mL graduated cylinder
- ½ TBS (½ tablespoon) NaHCO3
(baking soda)
- 10 mL 3% acetic acid (vinegar)

PROCEDURE
- Place the ½ TBS NaHCO3 into
the baggie.
- Fill the graduated cylinder with vinegar.
- Place the baggie on the balance pan.
- Stand the vinegar in the baggie.
- Mass out the 'before' mass.
- Seal the baggie.
- Spill the vinegar and mix.
- When the reaction stops, mass out the 'after'
mass.
- CLEANUP
- wash graduated cylinder with brush and soap
- wash tray with soap and paper towel
- dry grad. cyl. and tray
