OBJECTIVE

• "Does a burning candle burn or merely melt the wax?"

MATERIALS

• candle
• glass tube
• paper towel to hold glass tube

PROCEDURE

1. Light the candle and place the glass tube into the dark part of the flame next to the wick.
2. Note the smoke coming from the end of the glass tube.
3. What does the smoke smell like?
4. Place a lit match under the smoke.
5. Does the smoke burn?
